Seneca Resource Recovery has recently become a member of the trade association, Carpet Recycling UK (CRUK). CRUK is a non-profit organisation, which works to increase the recycling rate of carpet waste it the UK. Since its establishment in 2008 they have diverted 709,000 tonnes of carpet waste from landfill. That’s the equivalent of 43,846 football pitches!
Carpets are often made from natural and synthetic fibres and are still valuable when no longer wanted. Innovation in carpet recycling has seen valuable fibres such as polypropylene and wool be recycled into a range of products, such as equestrian surfaces, textiles felts and plastics.
Having joined CRUK, Seneca will help to ensure that the growing demand from businesses, households and local authorities for better alternative use of unwanted carpet is met.
