Scudder Demolition has been awarded the cut and carve package alongside groundworks, drainage and steel erection works at this Grade II listed building, located opposite Buckingham Palace. The high-profile, central London site presented the team with a restricted working area and confined basement, requiring detailed planning and logistics management to deliver works.
The project entails strengthening works to enable the jacking of the entire structure, prior to new foundations being constructed and all timber floors subsequently being replaced with concrete slabs. Once completed, a new drainage system is to be installed to service the new seven-storey frame. Alongside this, the building’s roof structure is to be deconstructed and replaced.
At pre-construction, the team identified that the tight site footprint provided insufficient space for a traditional loading bay. The site team therefore installed a steel gantry at the front of the structure. This ensured sufficient space to accommodate a crawler crane on the top deck and enabled a safe working environment for our operatives, as well as sufficient access and egress to carry out lifting operations.
Careys Design Team played a significant part in the design of the temporary works and was key in the construction sequence, of particular value were the Computer Generated Images used to develop an in-depth understanding of the sequence and future works within the building.
