Scudder Demolition was appointed by Dulwich College to undertake the enabling works associated with phase one of the redevelopment to the College Science Facilities. The works involved asbestos removal, demolition and the reconfiguration of existing two-storey classrooms and laboratory buildings.
To achieve this, our team installed temporary propping to support existing floors and enable our use of diamond saws to sever the concrete structure. This was then carefully broken out by robotic machinery in advance of the main demolition process.
We then clad the remaining three façades with a proprietary lightweight steel support structure and PPC cladding panels, forming a weather tight external structure. Internal works undertaken by our team included room reconfigurations, reinstatement of finishes following asbestos removal by Carey Group company, ION Environmental, and the formation of new fire escapes to provide a functional teaching facility.
Throughout the works, our team maintained close communication with the client to ensure a smooth interface with the College’s direct works package contractors, who were also undertaking works in the immediate vicinity.
