ION Environmental was awarded an asbestos removal contract at the Tate Modern in London, which was delivered to the highest standards of safety. The successful completion of our enabling works facilitated the follow-on demolition by Carey Group company Scudder Demolition and major extension to the south-west corner of the art gallery.
Our works included the removal of asbestos cement rainwater containers installed below the floor slab and associated soil around redundant services in the ground. We carried out careful manual removal of asbestos using insulated equipment to prevent service strikes whilst carrying out these works.
The gallery remained open to the public during the works and it was critical that as part of our robust planning, we worked closely with Scudder Demolition and our client to preserve the visitors’ experience and provide reassurance to visitors about the safety of our works.
