ION Environmental has been contracted for asbestos removal at Lots Road Power Station, which will be converted into a high-end multi-use development.
Initially, ION’s work involved the identification and removal of loose asbestos debris and bird guano throughout, in order to make the building a safe working environment. Following the identification of further asbestos, we then decontaminated the wall surface, facilitating the installation of structural building supports.
Works were conducted at heights of up to 45m, within confined spaces and across multiple locations. Due to the large number of contractors present on this large site, a key challenge was managing and co-ordinating substantial numbers of personnel. Careful planning meant we successfully delivered a safe and high-quality end result.
Ongoing challenges for our team include remaining responsive and
flexible throughout the project as the asbestos situation on-site was complex and access not always straightforward. We needed to be highly responsive at recommending and applying appropriate asbestos management and removal strategies. This involved close collaboration with other contractors, the client, and at times the Health and Safety Executive.
