The BBC’s Wood Lane Studios had been a working television broadcasting station, however extensive quantities of asbestos were uncovered during refurbishment and conversion works. ION was therefore contracted to isolate and remove all asbestos containing materials throughout the buildings. Our team worked on a complex fast-track project to make the building safe for use by the teams carrying out the renovation works.
The project uncovered asbestos throughout multiple confined spaces including the building’s undercroft and plenums below studios 1, 2 and 3. Careful planning and attention to detail were vital at all stages of the project to establish a safe working environment and ensure a high-quality outcome.
Several unplanned extensions to the project schedule required our team to remain operationally flexible whilst maintaining safe management of the considerable risks involved in handling this dangerous substance.
