Shaun joined the Carey Group in 2010 as Head of Marketing and Business Development, being promoted to Group Marketing and Communications Director in 2016. Shaun brings extensive construction knowledge and experience gained over a 20 year period in senior operational and management roles, both in the UK and overseas. His involvement in winning, designing and delivering complex civil engineering projects has contributed to Shaun developing a comprehensive understanding of construction, as well as a wide range of skills to develop and lead strategic business development and marketing activities at Careys.

Working at Careys is like working with extended family. There’s real honesty, a true sense of support, team work and camaraderie.

The primary focus isn’t about the growth of the business and achieving record profits, we’re more focused on delivering exceptional standards, developing solutions, creating exceptional working environments and careers for everyone – all component parts of the Carey Way.

When I first joined Careys, I worked with Siobhan Carey and other members of the leadership team to form the Careys Foundation. Since then, Siobhan and hundreds of people from across the Group have taken it from strength to strength.

It’s wonderful to see so many people getting involved with activities to support the Foundation every year, and from a very humble beginning supporting a single charity called the Welsh Harp in Wembley, it’s evolved into a significant charity which touches the lives of so many people. 

Growth and its impact on our culture – We have delivered tremendous growth over the past 5 years, both in terms of turnover and numbers of wonderful people who have joined Careys. 

A key focus of the Marketing and Communications team over the past 12 months, and will be for ever more, is promoting and embedding our culture –‘the Carey Way’. 

The Behavioural Science programme has had a tremendous impact on the Group.

The most significant and consistent change I have noted is the focus from all leadership teams to provide support to their operational and service delivery teams to create effective working environments. That may sound like a small or simple thing that everybody does as a matter of course, but when it is done well and in line with the principals of behavioural science, it has a massive impact and is contributing significantly to our drive to be #BetterEveryDay.

I joined Careys in 2010 during a very brutal recession when the focus of the whole leadership team was very much on winning quality jobs and delivering them well. We were a relatively small team back then and everybody threw everything they had into achieving these goals.

Our work winning team is now mature, effective and continues to secure quality jobs which support our plans for sustainable growth. We have now moved into a new chapter of the Group’s development where our focus is very much to strive for excellence in all that we do and embed the Carey Way of doing things.

We didn’t really have a Marketing and Communications team back in 2010, but that has all changed and today we have an enormously talented team of professionals with wide ranging skill sets and a wonderful commitment to supporting one another and Careys – What I’m most excited about is working with and supporting this team, to go from strength to strength and deliver wonderful things!
