At the forefront of our ICT services supporting our Group of specialist companies each and every day, this week we spoke with Service Desk Team Lead - Paige Bailey about her new management role, her passion for technology and her advice to anyone looking to pursue a similar career.

Joining Careys

I joined the Group in February 2017.

Deciding on a career in IT

I have always had an interest in technology. My interest started in school where I also completed an electronics GCSE. I like finding out how things work and how to fix issues.

Upon leaving school, I completed an apprenticeship in ICT. From there, I joined Careys as a 1st Line Support Analyst and have continued to develop my knowledge and interest since.

My day to day responsibilities

I recently applied for and was awarded the role of Service Desk Team Lead. In my new role I am responsible for the smooth running of the ICT service desk.

I ensure that all incidents and requests are handled to the agreed standard and that the desk is resourced to achieve the most effective customer experience.

This is a new role within ICT which is great for me as it allows me to shape and make a positive impact on the overall service that we as an ICT team provide to the business.

My favourite project

I am pleased that our team delivered the Windows 10 migration on time. Moving to the new operating system prevents certain cyber security issues that could have had a negative impact to our network and data integrity.

Overcoming challenges

Becoming a manager of people is a new challenge for me but I am lucky enough to have a great team of hardworking and dedicated individuals.

They are fully aware that this is a development role for me and are working with me to help make the ICT service desk better every day.

In five years’ time

In five years’, time, I see myself progressing further into management and leadership whilst maintaining a good level of technical knowledge. I would also like to achieve further professional ICT qualifications.

My advice to anyone looking to pursue a similar career

Keep focussed and motivated every day to make sure you add value to the business and to the people around you, as well as progress in your role.
