Our employees are encouraged and dedicated to volunteering their time to support charitable causes up and down the country, all year round. In 2019, we volunteered 1,400 hours to help a range of causes from foodbanks and homeless shelters to community groups and hospitals. Christmas time is no exception to lend a pair of helping hands, which can be the busiest time of year for charities.
Spreading some festive cheer, six of our employees teamed up to volunteer at Evelina London Children’s Hospital to wrap presents for children who would be in hospital on Christmas day.
Evelina London Children’s Hospital cares for more than 95,000 children and young people a year, offering a range of specialist services from antenatal diagnosis through to childhood, into adolescence and on into adult life.
The hospital relies on donations over the festive period to buy gifts for their young patients to play with at Christmas. ‘Play’ is an important part of the service that the hospital provides and is used to teach children about their treatments, prepare them for surgery or simply to have fun!
In the run up to Christmas, Gemma, Elizabeth, Rochelle, Sarah, Seema and Sally spent a day with over 40 other volunteers at the hospital wrapping as many presents as possible, which had been carefully selected by the Evelina staff for each patient.
There were some sobering moments thinking about the young children who would be spending their Christmas in hospital. But with over 40 of us in the room we tried to wrap as many presents in the time available! I think others would agree this is a very worthy cause.
