With one in five people in the UK living below the poverty line, food banks such as the one in Vauxhall provide a sense of relief for families and individuals in need of emergency food.
Across Careys project sites we receive excellent engagement and charitable support from employees. Aaron and Liam from Careys Civil Engineering took on a volunteering day close to their project site at Vauxhall Food Bank. Their day consisted of a range of tasks including unloading food deliveries, sorting donated food into nutritionally balanced parcels and distributing to those in need.
Volunteer days not only provide employees with engaging tasks, they also provide a deeper understanding behind a range of charities and their purpose. As a result, Aaron and Liam left at the end of the day with a better understanding behind the circumstances, ethos and purpose of Vauxhall Food Bank.
Aaron and Liam demonstrate an example of the excellent support we continuously receive from our site teams. With their efforts and dedication, we’re closer to achieving our Foundation objectives of positively impacting our local communities each day.
The day taught me about the different circumstances that people are under when they need help to feed themselves and their loved ones.
It was a great experience to lend a helping hand and I’m looking forward to using my volunteer day again next year.
