Careys are currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor on our Perry Bar site in Birmingham. If you are experienced in Groundworks and are looking for an opportunity to demonstrate your QS skills, this could be just the role for you.

We are looking for a Quantity surveyor ideally with a Design & Build background, to contribute towards our exciting Carey’s project based in Birmingham. We require a confident and reliable Surveyor with a solid principal contracting background, to support our Senior Surveyor on the project and to be our go-to person for figures and CVR in client facing meetings to ensure the financial position of projects are controlled effectively and accurately reported.

Responsibilities Include:

With guidance and support from the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will ensure a deep understanding of the project’s contractual and commercial requirement as well as the following:

  • Responsibility for the day to day administration of the commercial function of the Project, i.e. cost management reporting and supporting, change management, procurement as well as Sub-contract/special supplies administration;
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the project’s contractual and commercial requirements, including contractual compliance, quality and risk management;
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding and competent execution of the monthly reconciled values and updated forecasts for approval by the Commercial Manager/Senior Quantity Surveyor;
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding around the valuations cycle and associated deadlines, prioritising and managing both your own as well as the team’s time accordingly,
  • Demonstrate confidence and competency, with minimal input from the Commercial Manager/Senior Commercial Manager with dispute resolution and contractual entitlement;
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with and effectively interfaced at peer level with Careys clients to agree valuations and variations;
  • Interface with and form productive effective relationships with the site team(s) and the client team;

About You

You will be commercially astute, with a flair for building relationships with clients, contractors and peers alike.

  • Responsible for the day to day administration of the commercial function of the Project(s).
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the project(s) contractual and commercial requirements.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding and competent execution of the monthly reconciled values and updated forecasts for approval by the Commercial Manager/Senior Quantity Surveyor
  • Demonstrates a sound understanding around the valuations cycle and associated deadlines, prioritising and managing both their own and the team’s time accordingly. Demonstrate confidence and competency, with minimal input from the Commercial Manager/Senior Commercial Manager with dispute resolution and contractual entitlement.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with and effectively interfaced at peer level with Careys clients to agree valuations and variations.
  • Interface with and form productive effective relationships with the site team(s) and the client team
  • Successfully interpreting information obtained from the site team(s) for incorporation into the account.
  • Demonstrate inspirational leadership of the Commercial team around supporting, mentoring and coaching Graduates, Trainees and AQS’s, proactively assisting with their role specific training and development
