Careys Civil Engineering is helping to transform the face of Battersea, London by contributing to the monumental One Nine Elms project. We are delivering substructure works for the development’s 43-storey River Tower and 56-storey City Tower, due to become one of the tallest residential skyscrapers in Europe.
We have been appointed by principal contractor, Multiplex, to construct the three-level basements at both buildings – using the innovative top down construction method. Currently, we are operating 12m below ground level, delivering level-two excavation services from the River Tower towards the City Tower.
Together, One Nine Elm’s new landmark structures will create over 730,000ft2 of residential space, 267,000ft2 of hotel accommodations and 1,000ft2 of retail outlets. The first 18 floors of the River Tower will house a five-star hotel, including a luxury spa, ballroom and club house restaurant set above the hotel-room floors. Level 50 of the City Tower will offer an impressive residential lounge and sky garden, showcasing stunning views of London across the River Thames.
Despite the challenges presented by this project, we have achieved major milestones, such as successfully completing the repair of the 1.6m diameter Victorian brick sewer with a 70m steel liner, after months of planning and delivery.
This year, the team will carry out two 4,000m3 concrete pours for the foundations of both towers.
